# New Aadhaar Enrolment

> How Aadhaar enrolment works in India - finding a centre, documents, biometrics, and how long it takes to get your Aadhaar number.

Important: eAadhaar Info is an independent reference publication. It is not UIDAI or a Government of India website. For transactions, current rules and final verification, use the official UIDAI or myAadhaar service linked by the article.

## The reliable five-step route

- Find an authorised centre. Use [UIDAI’s current homepage](https://uidai.gov.in/en) and choose Find Nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra Centre . The external Bhuvan locator can be intermittent, so the UIDAI page is the safer starting point.

- Check your document route. Use the current [List of Acceptable Supporting Documents](https://uidai.gov.in/images/commdoc/List_of_Supporting_Document_for_Aadhaar_Enrolment_and_Update.pdf). Bring originals; the centre scans them and returns them.

- Complete capture. Adults provide demographic details, a photograph, fingerprints and iris scans. Children under five follow the child/Head-of-Family route.

- Verify before submission. Check spelling, date of birth, address, language and mobile/email details on the operator’s screen.

- Keep the acknowledgement. The EID is 14 digits plus a 14-digit date/time stamp. Use it to track the request.

## How long generation normally takes
UIDAI’s current service standard
For ages 0–18, generation is normally up to 30 days. For adults aged 18+, it is normally up to 180 days. UIDAI describes these as 90% service standards and may conduct additional verification.

Do not confuse generation time with postal delivery of a paper letter. Once generated, e-Aadhaar downloaded from myAadhaar is an equally valid form of Aadhaar.

## Before you go

- New enrolment is free; ask for a receipt for any paid update or print service.
- Book an appointment where the official page offers one; do not assume every centre accepts walk-ins.
- Never pay a broker or share an OTP with an unofficial agent.
