You need
A current document combination covering Proof of Identity and Proof of Address under UIDAI’s May 2026 schedule. One document may cover both columns.
The official supporting-document PDF is the exhaustive authority. Choose a scenario above for more detail when JavaScript is available.
Current document rules that matter most
- Documents must be valid on the application date and must match the permitted PoI, PoA, PoR or PDB column in UIDAI’s current list.
- A valid Indian passport is the strongest single-document example for many adult/NRI routes. Other common official examples include voter photo ID, driving licence, ration/e-ration card, birth certificate and specified government-issued photo documents—but each is accepted only for the columns marked in the official table.
- Address proofs such as utility bills and bank/post-office records have format and recency conditions. Read the note beside the exact document before relying on it.
- For a child born on or after 1 October 2023, a birth certificate is mandatory as the proof-of-date-of-birth/relationship document under the applicable child route.
- Do not rely on legacy document lists copied by third-party sites. Several items in older compilations are absent from the current replacement schedule.
