Ladakh

Ladakh’s current Aadhaar story is about capacity and record accuracy: the UT has trained a multi-department operator network and in 2026 resolved the long-running “Jammu & Kashmir” state-field issue.

A multi-agency service network

A July 2026 Administration release records training for about 50 operators and supervisors from IT, Education, ICDS, BSNL, the Leh Aadhaar Seva Kendra, CSC, J&K Bank, Army postal service and India Post. That breadth helps explain local delivery; it does not mean every office of every named organisation offers public Aadhaar service every day.

If Aadhaar still shows “Jammu & Kashmir”

The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat announced in April 2026 that UIDAI had enabled Ladakh to appear in the state field. A resident whose downloaded Aadhaar still shows the former state should first check the latest document and update status, then use an authorised update channel. Do not pay an intermediary who claims the administrative change requires a new Aadhaar number.

Children and mandatory biometrics

An April 2025 UT review identified left-out children, pending mandatory biometric updates and school-record mismatches as operational issues. Parents should compare the child’s birth/school record with Aadhaar before the visit and identify which record is wrong; a spelling mismatch is not solved safely by changing both records without evidence.
